BEST STUDENT PAPER WINNERS

The Student Paper Evaluation Committee met on Thursday, June 28 after all presentations were completed. Members of the committee were: Leo Budin (University of Zagreb), Vlado Glavinić (University of Zagreb) and Vesna Lužar-Stiffler (Srce).

The criteria for selecting the two best papers included: Original reviewer ratings (two per each paper), session chair and peer review, and committee evaluations.

Prizes for the top two papers were supplied by our sponsors and included:
SAS software (SAS Institute d.o.o.), Microsoft software (Microsoft Hrvatska d.o.o.), iPod nano (4GB) (Srce) and Vodafone Mobile Connect Card.

The winners (in alphabetical order) were:
Bojan Blažona, CROATIA (paper title "Visualization Service Based on Web Services"),

and Krešimir Zauder, CROATIA (paper title "Collaborative Tagging Supported Knowledge Discovery").

The papers submitted were of course, very good, and these two were outstanding in all respects. We look forward to seeing your contributions next year.

Guidelines, Procedures and Awards

1. Only student authors are eligible. Co-authorship with other students and/or faculty advisers is permitted, but the competing student author must be the first author and identified as the lead author. Communication is with the lead student author. The lead student authors of each paper must be registered at a college or university, either as an undergraduate or graduate student, and must have written the paper while so registered. Lead Student authors will be requested to provide verification in this regard (e.g. a valid ID card), which also entitles them to the discounted student rate.

2. Student paper must be prepared according to the ITI guidelines for submitting papers (see http://iti.srce.hr/itinstr.html). The topic of the paper must be related to the field of one of ITI topics. The paper will be reviewed in accordance with the ITI review procedures. Comments from the reviewers will be forwarded to the lead author, responsible for all required communication. If the paper is accepted, it will be placed into the Student Paper Competition Sessions at the Conference.

3. The final paper must be written in accordance with ITI Instructions to Authors, and all reviewer comments must be resolved. The final paper will be published in the Conference Proceedings.

4. The lead student author must present the paper during their designated the Student Paper Competition Session at the Conference. The paper will be judged, along with others in the sessions, based on written technical content (70%) and on presentation effectiveness (30%). The Competition Judges will select one Outstanding Undergraduate Student Paper and one Outstanding Graduate Student Paper. A special certificate will be awarded to the student authors of the winning papers; and prizes (to be announced) will be awarded to the Lead Student Author of the winning papers. The Competition Judges will select two outstanding student papers.
